June Events at Poe & Company: Science, Stories, and Summer Fun
Summer is here—and so are some of our favorite events of the year! Whether you're a science buff, fiction lover, young creative, or just here for the wine and books (no shame in that!), our June calendar is packed with moments you won't want to miss. Here's what's coming up at Poe & Company Bookstore:
📚 June 5, 5–7 PM: Mark O’Connell Book Signing – "The Year Science Changed Everything"
Explore the groundbreaking story of 1957’s International Geophysical Year—the moment when 6,000 scientists from 66 nations came together to launch the space race, discover the Van Allen radiation belts, and lay the foundation for modern climate science. Author Mark O’Connell reveals how that moment in time still shapes our planet’s future.
📖 June 5, 7–9 PM: Poe & Company Book Club – "Jane and Dan at the End of the World"
Right after our science talk, settle in for a completely different kind of story. This month’s pick is a genre-bending novel about apocalypse, intimacy, and the unexpected beginnings we find when everything else ends. Grab a glass of wine and join the discussion—no pressure, just great conversation.
☀️ June 7: Summer Reading Program Launch
Our favorite season is officially here! Sign up to read all summer long and earn some amazing prizes along the way. Open to readers of all ages—because everyone deserves a little extra motivation to keep the pages turning.
🍷 June 7, 12–2 PM: Elizabeth Messer in Conversation with Perrie Patterson
French food, fine wine, and thoughtful fiction—need we say more? Celebrate “From the Valley We Rise” with author Elizabeth Messer and moderator Perrie Patterson. Tickets are $40 and include refreshments and a paperback copy of the book. French flavor will abound!
🏙️ June 11, 5:30 PM: Emily Carpenter – "Gothictown" Ticketed Event
Join us in-store for an atmospheric evening with bestselling author Emily Carpenter as she discusses her latest release “Gothictown” in a cocktail-and-conversation-style event. Dark secrets, Southern Gothic mystery, and just the right amount of glam. Don’t miss this one.
🎨 June 17, 11 AM: Read, Write & Create Kids Workshop
Young storytellers (ages 8–12, give or take) are invited to dream up their own characters, build their backstories, and bring them to life on the page. Each $35 ticket includes a Read Write Create Story Kit packed with everything they need to imagine big.
🖼️ June 19, 4–7 PM: Crabapple Crawl Art Night
We're closing out the month with a celebration of local creativity! Stroll the sidewalks of Crabapple, meet local artists like Tammy Alman, Ken Holden, and Ernst Lewis, and shop original works. It’s the perfect blend of art, community, and summer vibes.
See you in the store (or out on the sidewalk)! Keep an eye on our socials for ticket links and event reminders—and stop in anytime to say hi.
